1st Gam Udawa under new Govt. opened in Weli Oya

The first Gam Udawa constructed under the new Government was declared open in Weli Oya under the auspices of Minister of Housing Construction Sajith Premadasa.

This is the first Gam Udawa to be declared open in 22 years, since the passing of Late President Ranasinghe Premadasa, who conceptualised the project. The village which has been named the Sampath Nuwara Isurupura Model Village, Mulllaitivu comprises of 25 homes and has been provided with facilities including roads, water and electricity.

Deputy Minister of Housing Construction Indika Bandara and officials also participated at this occasion. 

The National Housing Development Authority’s construction model village (Gam Udawa) is to be used island wide. 

Premadasa has guided and already started more villages island wide, including media housing villages, government servant housing villages and youth housing villages, in all Divisional Secretariat areas.
