2,237 COVID-19 cases detected over the weekend

Weekend COVID-19 detections totalled 2,237 with 1,159 COVID-19 patients detected on Saturday and 1,078 COVID-19 patients detected on Sunday.

This brings Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 detections to 513,609.

According to health officials, the patients detected yesterday include 1,074 persons from the New Year cluster and four overseas arrivals while Saturday’s detections include 1,117 persons from the New Year cluster, 29 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 13 Sri Lankan overseas returnees.

A total of 408,825 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster and the Prisons cluster has expanded to 8,687 patients. The country’s local COVID-19 cases also include 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 6,933 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 109,530 persons from Colombo, 91,583 persons from Gampaha, 50,318 persons from Kalutara, 30,174 persons from Galle, and 24,641 persons from Kurunegala.

Western Province detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 77,233 persons from Colombo, 73,049 persons from Gampaha, and 43,260 persons from Kalutara.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 9,997 PCR tests were conducted yesterday and 7,702 PCR tests and 3,113 rapid antigen tests were carried out the previous day.

At present, 46,397 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,249 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 454,532 with 843 persons released from medical or home-based care yesterday.
