2,361 COVID-19 patients yesterday bring weekend detections to 4,715

COVID-19 detections over the weekend rose to 4,715 with 2,361 persons testing positive for the virus yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 2,329 persons linked to the New Year cluster. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 18,885 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Saturday, 19,676 PCR tests were carried out and 2,354 persons tested positive for the virus. The patients include 2,326 persons linked to the New Year cluster, 14 persons linked to the Prisons cluster, and 14 Sri Lankan overseas returnees.

The Department of Government Information states that 561 persons from Gampaha, 528 persons from Colombo, 313 persons from Kalutara, 111 persons from Jaffna, and 105 persons from Kegalle are among the patients detected on Saturday.

The overall district distribution of COVID-19 patients records 55,316 persons from Colombo, 38,054 persons from Gampaha, 24,249 persons from Kalutara, 11,885 persons from Kandy, and 11,406 persons from Kurunegala.

A total of 223,638 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 to date. This includes 121,936 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 6,651 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The four clusters have a cumulative patient count of 216,760.

In addition to the local cases, 4,604 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

At present, 32,955 persons are under medical care and 1,657 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observations.

Meanwhile, hospitals yesterday discharged 2,031 persons, bringing the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 188,547.
