COVID-19 detections during the weekend rose to 2,618 with 1,331 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
Daily COVID-19 detections have been gradually rising, with daily detections exceeding 1,000 on 30 January and 1,100 just two days later. Daily detections exceeded 1,200 on 4 February.
On Saturday, 1,270 persons from the New Year cluster and 17 persons from the Prisons cluster tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 8,233 PCR tests and 5,999 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.
All patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.
A total of 618,520 COVID-19 cases have been detected in the country to date.
This includes 512,757 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.
The country’s imported cases include 7,194 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.
The district distribution of COVID-19 detections shows 125,861 persons from Colombo, 106,986 persons from Gampaha, 55,301 persons from Kalutara, 40,292 persons from Galle, and 29,636 persons from Kurunegala.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 93,564 persons from Colombo, 88,452 persons from Gampaha, and 48,243 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.
At present, 21,720 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,617 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 581,205 with 435 persons released from care yesterday.
