A 20-member group from various schools in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka accompanied by two officials from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports returned to Sri Lanka today after a successful educational tour to New Delhi, India. Students from 19 schools in the Northern Province who had scored highest grades in ‘A’ Level exams were selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, Northern Province for this educational tour.
During this tour, the students had the opportunity to visit many historical sites in New Delhi such as the Mahatma Gandhi Samadhi, Indira Gandhi memorial, Jawaharlal Nehru memorial, India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Delhi Haat and Crafts Museum.
The team from Sri Lanka also visited the St. Francis de Sales Senior Secondary School and had the opportunity of interacting with students and teachers. A group of seven students from Zahira College, Colombo are also scheduled to undertake a similar educational tour later this year. These events are supported by the ISLF under its youth programme and help in creating awareness and understanding and create bonds of friendship amongst the youth of the two countries. The India – Sri Lanka Foundation was established by a Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of India and Sri Lanka in 1998 in order to foster India – Sri Lanka relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation and to promote greater understanding between the people of the two countries.
