A report on the draft 20th Amendment Bill prepared by a nine-member committee appointed by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa which was due to be presented to the Cabinet yesterday was not done, Government sources said. The tabling of the report in Cabinet did not take place after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa told ministers that he would take the responsibility for the contents of the 20th Amendment.

The Committee was appointed by the PM after some of the constituent parties of the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) expressed concerns regarding some of the provisions in 20A.

The draft Bill was gazetted last week and is likely to be presented to Parliament next week.
