225 Chief Inspectors promoted as ASPs

A total of 225 Inspectors of Police (CIs) have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) with immediate effect, the Public Security Ministry said.

This is the first time that so many CIs have been promoted to the rank of ASP simultaneously.

The Public Service Commission has also granted approval to promote these officers.

Previously, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekara said that Police Officers had not been promoted for many years due to the lack of proper procedures.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa recommended the promotion of these officers after Minister Weerasekara highlighted the necessity of increasing the number of ASPs within the Police Department.
