CHENNAI, (Ber-nama): Twenty-six Sri Lankan Tamils were deported on Thursday after being detained by the Indian Coast Guard while making their way to Australia in a ferry off the Andaman coast two days ago. The group was planning to enter Australia illegally to seek work, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported. Indian Coast Guard personnel intercepted the ferry carrying the Sri Lankans before handing them over to the Andaman police who later brought them to Chennai.  The Sri Lankans were travelling without documents. The group said they had paid the ferry’s operator hundreds of thousands of rupees for their journey.
