3 Chief Ministers and 4 opposition leaders elected to parliament

Fifty five seats of all provincial councils are vacant as several provincial councilors have been elected to parliament.

It is significant to note that three Provincial Council Chief Ministers and 4 Opposition leaders have been elected to the 8th parliament

Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Uva Provincial Council Chief Minister Harin Fernando and North Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera have been elected to parliament. 

Opposition leaders who have been elected to parliament are: Ranjith Aluwihare from the Central Provincial Council, Thusitha Wijemanne from the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, J.C. Alawathuwala from the North Western Provincial Council and Sidney Jayarathna from the North Central Provincial Council.

Fourteen Provincial councilors have been elected to parliament from the Western Provincial Council, and it is the highest number of PC members elected to parliament.

Seven PC members from each Provincial Council including North Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva have been elected as parliamentarians. 

Five members from the Southern Provincial Council, 4 members from the Eastern Provincial Council, 2 members each from the North Central and Northern Provincial council have also been elected to parliament. 

Thirty six PC members have been elected to parliament from the UNP, and that is the highest number ever elected to parliament from one party.

Fifteen members from the UPFA and 2 PC members each from the JVP and the TNA have also been elected to the 8th parliament.
