301 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 657,435 following the detection of 301 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The previous day, 320 persons tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 4,129 PCR tests and 2,740 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 69,568 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January. The local cases also include 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 7,236 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners. The Epidemiology Unit states that 137,374 patients from Colombo, 113,629 patients from Gampaha, 57,858 patients from Kalutara, 44,970 patients from Galle, and 31,209 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 105,077 persons from Colombo, 95,095 persons from Gampaha and 50,800 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19. The country’s active cases dropped to 16,576 after 5,181 COVID-19 patients who completed home-based care between 5 March to 15 March were added to the total.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 66 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 624,440.

In addition to this, 1,020 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
