35 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 663,041 following the detection of 35 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The previous day, 61 persons tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 1,705 PCR tests and 1,836 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

The country’s COVID-19 detections include 483,090 cases from the New Year cluster, 82,785 cases from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 cases from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 cases from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 75,434 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January.

In terms of imported cases, 7,242 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 cases shows 139,120 detections from Colombo, 114,375 detections from Gampaha, 58,230 detections from Kalutara, 45,606 detections from Galle and 31,490 detections from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,823 persons from Colombo, 95,841 persons from Gampaha, and 51,172 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

There are currently 3,982 persons under medical or home-based care. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 222 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 642,560 with eight persons discharged from COVID-19 treatment yesterday.
