36 candidates place deposits for Presidential Election so far

Thirty six candidates have placed cash deposits so far for the 2024 Presidential Election.

The Elections Commission of Sri Lanka said the total includes 19 candidates representing recognised political parties, 16 independent candidates who have been nominated by a voter and 01 from other political parties. 

The candidates who have placed deposits included the leader of the Mawbima Janatha Party (MJP) and Presidential Candidate of the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera, the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Struggle Movement (Jana Aragala Viyaparaya) Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage, Namal Rajapaksha of the ‘Samabima Party’ and independent candidate Chaminda Anuruddha.

The period for placing deposits for the 2024 Presidential Election is scheduled to end at 12 noon today.

The acceptance of nominations for the upcoming Presidential Election is scheduled to begin tomorrow from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.
