Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 586,183 with the detection of 419 patients yesterday and the addition of over 1,000 delayed cases to the total.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,178 COVID-19 cases detected between 1 and 14 December were added to the total after verification.
Health officials stated that 417 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 9,797 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.
On Tuesday, 6,000 PCR tests and 2,648 rapid antigen tests were conducted, and 479 COVID-19 patients were detected. This includes 477 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals.
A total of 481,593 patients from the New Year cluster have been detected and the country’s local cases also include 82,785 patients from the New Year cluster, 9,065 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster.
In terms of imported cases, 7,020 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.
The country’s total COVID-19 detections include 117,458 persons from Colombo, 101,250 persons from Gampaha, 53,828 persons from Kalutara, 38,149 persons from Galle, and 28,600 persons from Kurunegala.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 85,161 persons from Colombo, 82,716 persons from Gampaha, and 46,770 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.
At present, 11,154 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,302 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 210 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 560,085.
