46 COVID-19 patients recover; 2 new patients

Forty-six patients were discharged yesterday after recovering from COVID-19, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry said. Two persons tested positive yesterday, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 1,879. 

With 46 patients recovering yesterday, a total of 1,196 patients have recovered as of last evening and 670 patients remain under treatment at 11 hospitals. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) cares for the largest group of patients with 119 patients. A total of 107 patients are being treated at the District General Hospital Hambantota, with another 95 at the Base Hospital in Teldeniya. A total of 57 suspected COVID-19 patients are under observation by Health Authorities. Eleven patients have succumbed to the virus.

A total of 1,677 PCR tests for the virus was conducted on Thursday (11 June). A total of 270 persons who completed the quarantine program were released yesterday, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said. A total of 12,856 persons who completed quarantine at centres managed by the military have returned home as of yesterday evening. A total of 4, 874 remain in quarantine, NOCPC added.

According to the NOCPC, a total of 647 Navy personnel had recovered as of last evening, and a total of 227 sailors remain in care. A total of 559 repatriated Sri Lankans tested positive for COVID-19 as of yesterday. Commenting on the Navy cluster, Director General – Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that the situation has improved significantly and that 1,290 sailors and family members who were isolated at the Welisara Navy station could be released from quarantine in the coming days. A total of 622 sailors and their contacts who are in quarantine centres could also be released soon, subject to the results of PCR tests they will be subject to, he said.
