5 killed after tree falls on bus

Five people died when a tree fell on a bus in Colombo yesterday, a spokesperson for the Colombo National Hospital told media.

The bus was heading to Deniyaya from Colombo when the accident took place.

17 passengers were injured and are receiving medical treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, Police said.

The Duplication Road, one of Colombo’s busiest roads, was subsequently closed for traffic movement due to the accident, and officials have taken steps to remove the fallen tree and the damaged bus from the road.
