50 COVID-19 patients recover, 21 new cases

  • 890 active cases, total of 1,835 cases

Twenty-one persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 1,835, while 50 patients were discharged after being subjected to PCR tests, the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry reported. 

With 50 patients recovering yesterday, a total of 941 patients have recovered as of last evening and 890 patients remain under treatment at 11 hospitals. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases cares for the largest group of 144 patients, while 123 patients were being treated at the Navy Hospital at Welisara, with another 108 at the District General Hospital Hambantota. A total of 70 suspected COVID-19 patients were under observation by health authorities. 

A total of 117 persons who completed quarantine were released yesterday after being subjected to PCR tests, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said yesterday. A total of 12,090 persons who completed quarantine at centres managed by the military have returned home as of yesterday evening. A total of 5,135 remain in quarantine, NOCPC added.

According to the NOCPC, a total of 472 Navy personnel have recovered as of last evening, the total number of infected sailors and their close contacts were 892. A total of 375 sailors remain in care. A total of 523 repatriated Sri Lankans had tested positive for COVID-19 as of yesterday. 

A group of 278 Sri Lankans were repatriated from the UK on Srilankan Airlines flight UL504 yesterday and were moved to quarantine. 

The Government is set to decide on restarting public transport fully after a discussion held with the President and stakeholders yesterday, the Ministry of Passenger Transport and Management said in a press release. However, public transportation, including between Colombo and Gampaha, will only be conducted under strict public health guidelines issued by health authorities from today.
