507,208 families resettled by Ministry

By Ashwin Hemmathagama – Our Lobby Correspondent Resettlement program carried out by the Ministry of Resettlement in Killinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Jaffna, and Vavuniya Districts in the Northern Province has resettled 507,208 families, according to Minister of Resettlement Gunaratne Weerakoon. Under the resettlement program the respective families are provided with transport to their place of origin, cooked meals for three days, dry rations for a period of six months starting from the day they are resettled with the possibilities to be extended for nine months, eight cement bags, 12 tin roofing sheets, a financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 for the construction of their temporary house, agricultural tools, along with mosquito nets, bed sheets, kitchen utensils, clothes, and home utensils. “Cooked meals for the three days cost Rs. 450, the dry rations are of the value of Rs. 6,840, cements bags cost Rs. 7,280, the tin roofing sheets Rs. 16,800, the agricultural tools Rs. 2,131, and the other items are of the value of Rs. 9,000,” clarified Minister Weerakoon in response to a Question for Oral answers raised by United National Party MP Sajith Premadasa.
