556 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 537,201 with the detection of 556 patients yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 554 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals. A total of 4,931 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Monday, 5,920 PCR tests and 2,892 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 561 persons tested positive for COVID-19. All patients were linked to the New Year cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit states that a total of 432,558 patients have been linked to the New Year cluster to date. The Peliyagoda cluster has 82,785 patients, the Prisons cluster has 9,048 patients, and the Divulapitiya cluster has 3,059 patients.

In terms of imported cases, 6,953 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners are included in the country’s total patient count.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 112,699 patients from Colombo, 95,204 patients from Gampaha, 51,883 patients from Kalutara, 32,964 patients from Galle, and 25,913 patients from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 80,402 persons from Colombo, 76,670 persons from Gampaha, and 44,825 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 19,544 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,498 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 300 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 504,003.
