559 persons test positive for COVID-19

A total of 559 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, increasing Sri Lanka’s overall detections to 538,320.

All patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. A total of 5,459 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Tuesday, 4,931 PCR tests and 2,628 rapid antigen tests were conducted, and 551 persons tested positive for COVID-19. All patients were linked to the New Year cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit states that a total of 433,672 patients have been linked to the New Year cluster to date. The Peliyagoda cluster has 82,785 patients, the Prisons cluster has 9,048 patients, and the Divulapitiya cluster has 3,059 patients.

In terms of imported cases, 6,955 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners are included in the country’s total patient count.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 112,748 patients from Colombo, 95,254 patients from Gampaha, 51,899 patients from Kalutara, 33,224 patients from Galle, and 25,961 patients from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 80,451 persons from Colombo, 76,720 persons from Gampaha, and 44,841 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 19,731 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,535 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 373 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 504,376.
