A total of 57,371 persons received the first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, the Epidemiology Unit states, adding that the first dose has been administered to 2,391,683 persons and the second dose has been administered to 748,573 persons in total.
Among the persons vaccinated on Thursday are 11,349 persons who received the first dose of Sinopharm and 43,040 persons who received the second dose of Sinopharm. As of Thursday, 1,401,455 persons had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and both doses had been administered to 382,972 persons.
The second dose of Sputnik V was administered to 2,875 persons on Thursday, bringing the number of persons to receive the second dose to 8,991. The first dose has been administered to 64,986 persons.
On Thursday, 107 persons received the second dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 925,242 persons have received the first dose to date and 356,610 persons have received the second dose as well.
Approximately 600,000 Sri Lankans who received the first dose of AstraZeneca are awaiting the second dose. According to Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, the second dose of AstraZeneca will be administered to these persons if the country receives doses of AstraZeneca by the second week of July.
“If we do not receive 600,000 doses or receive the Pfizer vaccine before this along with approval from the specialised committee in our country, we can use Pfizer as the second dose, because the World Health Organization has given a green light for this to a certain extent,” he said.
