584 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count exceeded 590,000 with the detection of 584 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 572 persons from the New Year cluster and 12 overseas arrivals.

The previous day, 548 persons from the New Year cluster and two Sri Lankan overseas returnees tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 7,852 PCR tests and 3,721 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

A total of 590,063 COVID-19 patients have been detected in Sri Lanka to date.

This includes 485,273 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,068 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 7,052 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19.

In terms of the district distribution of COVID-19 cases, 118,022 detections from Colombo, 101,908 detections from Gampaha, 53,978 detections from Kalutara, 38,503 detections from Galle, and 28,755 detections from Kurunegala are included in the country’s total detections.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 85,725 persons from Colombo, 83,374 persons from Gampaha, and 46,920 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 13,423 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,381 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 145 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 561,557.
