61,827 persons vaccinated against COVID-19

COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 61,827 persons on Saturday and 74.27% of the country’s population has received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Our World in Data states that 64.23% of the population has received the second dose as well. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 15,967,577 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 13,809,954 persons have received the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The booster dose has been administered to 2,430,484 persons and the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered as the third dose. On Saturday, 60,138 persons received the booster dose.

The first dose of Pfizer was administered to 257 persons on Saturday and 203 persons received the second dose of Pfizer. In total, 1,562,227 persons have received the first dose of Pfizer and 470,681 persons have received the second dose.

The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,961,808 persons and the second dose has been administered to 10,977,507 persons. On Saturday, 293 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 936 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.

The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and 1,418,593 persons have received the second dose as well.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 804,801 persons have received the first dose of Moderna and 787,361 persons have received the second dose as well.

The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,110 persons and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of Sputnik V.

Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday said a proposal has been made to make COVID-19 vaccination cards mandatory when entering public places from 1 January.

“The COVID Committee has proposed that persons will not be permitted in public places if they do not have a QR code,” Ranatunga said.
