Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 immunisation program on Sunday saw 62,008 persons vaccinated, raising second dose coverage among the country’s over-30 population to 94.6%.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 37.4% of the population aged 20 to 29 years have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and the second dose has been administered to 12.5% of the 20 to 29 population.
The first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 13,772,541 persons and the second dose to 11,093,465 persons.
A batch of 73,710 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine reached the island yesterday and Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Channa Jayasumana said Sri Lanka would receive four million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in the coming months. This includes 800,000 doses of Pfizer expected by mid-October.
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be used to vaccinate children with Jayasumana saying a decision on this will be made in the coming days.
He added that the administration of the Sputnik V second dose in Kandy District commenced yesterday, with the arrival of 120,000 second dose products over the weekend. A total of 159,089 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 43,453 persons have received the second dose of Sputnik V.
The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 10,930,568 persons, of which 9,026,354 persons have received the second dose as well. On Sunday, 20,594 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 9,824 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm. The first dose of AstraZeneca was administered to 707 persons on Sunday and the second dose to 29,287 persons. A total of 1,447,411 persons have received the first dose of AstraZeneca to date, while 1,020,888 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 782,070 persons, of which 758,947 persons have received the second dose as well. This includes persons vaccinated on Sunday, when 785 persons received the first dose of Moderna and 205 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 453,403 persons have received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and 243,823 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Sunday, 558 persons received the first dose of Pfizer while 48 persons received the second dose.
