63rd Convention All Ceylon YMMA Conference on Sunday

The All Ceylon YMMA Conference will hold its 63rd annual convention on Sunday 16 June at the BMICH and the ceremonial opening will be at 9.30 a.m. Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, will be the chief guest  and Attorney General Palitha Fernando will be the guest of honour.   

The annual event with the participation of delegates from member YMMAs will discuss programs and projects implemented and to plan for the future over a period of two days. In addition the office bearers will be elected at the AGM of the convention said National President of the YMMA K.N. Deen at the media briefing held at Hotel Ranmuthu Colombo recently.

The convention will also honour the ‘Y’ personality of the year with Senior Journalist Latheef Farook and Zam Gem Chairman Z.A.M. Rifai being feted this year around. The convention will see awards presented to the ‘best secretary’, ‘best president’, ‘best director’ and ‘active branch’ in the fields of education, sports, religious and other activities.

The All Ceylon YMMA Conference is an incorporated body by Act of Parliament No.31 of 1968 and is an approved charity. It is the premier national Muslim youth serving organisation with 102 member YMMAs spread throughout the country.

Although YMMAs existed since 1915 in Sri Lanka, it was only in 1950 that 18 member YMMAs were brought together under one umbrella known as the All Ceylon YMMA Conference by its founder late Dr. A.M.A. Azeez and was the first President of the conference.

The YMMA conducts many activities such as socio-economic projects, education scholarships, leadership training, sports and recreation, relief and rehabilitation in times of national disasters, promotion of IT and the English language, environment and health projects, anti drug projects, national integration projects, religious and cultural activities and advocacy role of the community for last 63 years. 

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees Khalid M. Farouk, National General Secretary Razmara Abdeen and National General Treasurer M.R.M. Ziyadh were present at the media briefing.
