720 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 552,994 with 720 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The COVID-19 detections were from the New Year cluster.

On Monday, 731 persons from the New Year cluster and one Sri Lankan overseas arrival tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 7,077 PCR tests and 3,127 rapid antigen tests were performed on Monday.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 448,168 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,053 patients have been detected from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients have been detected from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 6,967 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 detections shows 114,061 persons from Colombo, 97,056 persons from Gampaha, 52,484 persons from Kalutara, 34,500 persons from Galle, and 26,748 persons from Kurunegala. During the third wave of the pandemic, 81,764 persons from Colombo, 78,522 persons from Gampaha, and 45,426 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 14,220 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,550 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 524,740 with 429 persons released from care yesterday.
