740 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka COVID-19 detections exceeded 560,000 with 740 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

A total of 560,345 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

The patients detected yesterday include 734 persons from the New Year cluster and six overseas arrivals. On Wednesday, 744 persons from the New Year cluster and one Sri Lankan overseas returnee tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s COVID-19 detections include 455,498 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,053 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster. In terms of imported cases, 6,968 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 114,681 persons from Colombo, 97,936 persons from Gampaha, 52,784 persons from Kalutara, 35,077 persons from Galle, and 27,163 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 82,384 persons from Colombo, 79,402 persons from Gampaha, and 45,726 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19. At present, 17,713 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,858 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 471 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 528,400.
