The country’s COVID-19 patient count exceeded 77,000 with a total of 756 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
According to the Department of Government Information, 743 persons were associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 13 were linked to the prisons cluster. This brings the triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons to 73,157 patients.
In addition to this, 1,963 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 150 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
With the patients detected yesterday, the country’s total COVID-19 patient count has risen to 77,184. This includes 26,644 persons from Colombo, 15,452 persons from Gampaha, 5,567 persons from Kalutara, 3,326 persons from Kandy, and 1,957 persons from Kurunegala.
The district distribution of COVID-19 patients includes the 774 persons who tested positive for the virus on Sunday, of which 208 were from Gampaha, 179 were from Colombo, 82 were from Ratnapura, 66 were from Kandy, and 63 were from Kalutara.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 6,346 persons are currently under medical care. Of the active patients, 433 persons are at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, 333 persons are at the Giriulla Treatment Centre, and 286 persons are at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital. A total of 556 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are currently under observation at various hospitals.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 70,429 persons have recovered from COVID-19 to date. Among persons discharged yesterday are 113 persons from the Gallela Treatment Centre, 93 persons from the Giriulla Treatment Centre, and 92 persons from the Kahagolla Treatment Centre.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 11,895 PCR tests were performed in Sri Lanka on Monday.
