8-member committee to investigate P’ment melee

A Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has been appointed to look into the fracas that took place in Parliament earlier this week.

A committee chaired by Siyambalapitiya has been appointed to look into the incidents that took place in the Parliament Chamber and its premises on 21 April and to recommend the further steps to be taken.

The committee is also responsible for recommending measures to be taken in order to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future, Parliament said in a short statement. 

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced in Parliament that Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Keheliya Rambukwella, State Minister Susil Premajayantha, MPs Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, Ranjith Madduma Bandara and M. A. Sumanthiran have been appointed as members of the Committee.
