COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 91,039 persons on Saturday and second dose coverage of the country’s population has risen to 64.11%.
Our World in Data states that 74.2% of the population has received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 15,955,985 persons have received the first vaccine dose and 13,789,006 persons have received the second dose.
The third dose has been administered to 1,266,552 persons. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered as the booster and 81,208 persons received the booster dose on Saturday.
Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana yesterday urged the public to get their booster dose before the festive season, saying all persons over 20 years who received the second dose at least three months ago can receive the booster dose from any vaccination centre.
“During the last two weeks of December, many visit their relatives and friends. We do not see a need to impose restrictions on these. This is why a decision was made to administer to the booster dose before these visits are made. However, if one partakes in festivities without the booster dose, we will have to prepare for a COVID tsunami during the last week of December,” he said.
The first dose of Pfizer was administered to 1,437 persons on Saturday and 860 persons received the second dose of Pfizer. In total, the first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 1,556,567 persons and 466,033 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,955,876 persons and the second dose has been administered to 10,961,207 persons. On Saturday, 2,165 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm, and 5,369 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and 1,418,593 persons have received the second dose as well.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 804,801 persons have received the first dose of Moderna and 787,361 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,110 persons and the second dose has been administered to 155,812 persons.
