941 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • COVID-19 detections remain below 1,000 for third day in a row

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 516,465 with 941 persons testing positive for the virus yesterday.

This is the third day in a row where COVID-19 detections have remained below 1,000.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 7,368 PCR tests were conducted yesterday and all COVID-19 detections were from the New Year cluster.

On Tuesday, 7,231 PCR tests and 2,675 rapid antigen tests were carried out and 932 COVID-19 patients were detected. This includes 909 persons from the New Year cluster and 23 persons from the Prisons cluster.

A total of 411,733 patients from the New Year cluster and 8,768 patients from the Prisons cluster have been detected to date. The country’s local COVID-19 cases also include 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

Epidemiology Unit data shows that 6,937 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners make up the country’s imported cases.

The district distribution of COVID-19 cases shows 110,023 persons from Colombo, 91,974 persons from Gampaha, 50,535 persons from Kalutara, 30,657 persons from Galle, and 24,854 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 77,726 persons from Colombo, 73,440 persons from Gampaha, and 43,477 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit states that Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 456,857 with 770 persons released from care yesterday.

At present, 46,761 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,711 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to health officials, the 1904 SMS service provided under the COVID-19 homecare integrated system has received 32,000 messages thus far, through which 150,000 persons have received support.

A total of 50,000 COVID-19 patients have connected with the 247 hotline. Of this, 1,000 patients who required emergency care were hospitalised.
