The All Ceylon Bus Passengers Association (ACBPA) has requested Inspector General of Police (Acting) Priyantha Weerasuriya to have a meeting with the association to discuss several issues faced by bus passengers in the country.

ACBPA Convenor Vimukthi Dushantha writing a letter to IGP Weerasuriya said, as a responsible organisation that was dedicated to safeguarding the rights and welfare of the public transport users, it wanted to discuss with the IGP, several issues including the rise in passenger and safety issues in public busses, overcrowding, and reckless driving that threatens the safety of commuters.

“We will also discuss with the IGP, the lack of enforcement of regulations regarding bus operations, fares, and schedules and poor handling of complaints and inadequate systems to report passenger grievances,” he said.

According to Dushantha, the ACBPA also intends to discuss taking possible measures to address these challenges and explore ways to strengthen collaboration between the police force and the ACBPA in ensuring the safety and comfort of bus passengers.
