AG dispatches officials to prevent ‘Mahaveer Day’ commemorations

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera yesterday dispatched three teams of senior officers from his department to appear on behalf of the Police seeking court orders to prevent ‘Mahaveer Day’

commemorations from being held in the North and East.

According to Attorney General’s Coordinating Secretary State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, two teams had made submission to the Magistrate’s Courts of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu.

However, the team dispatched to Jaffna could not reach there due to the prevailing weather affecting flight operations, Jayaratne said, adding that the team will make a submission before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court regarding the issue tomorrow.
