  • Ex-Minister was granted bail while receiving treatment at private hospital
  • Three others arrested in connection with “white van” presser granted bail on Monday

The Attorney General’s Department yesterday filed a revision application against the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s order granting bail to MP Rajitha Senaratne.

Senaratne was granted bail on 30 December after Police placed the former Health Minister under arrest while he was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.

Senaratne is being investigated over allegations that he fabricated information prior to the Presidential Election, by organising a press conference with two other men linking the President to “white van” abductions and killings.

Three other persons who were taken into custody, including the former State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) Chairman Rumy Mohamed, were released on bail on Monday.

Senaratne remains warded at the private hospital, receiving treatment for a coronary heart disease.
