  • AG advices Acting IGP to resend files once investigations are fully complete

The Attorney General’s Department yesterday returned a  further 18 incomplete Investigation files to the Acting IGP in  respect of suspects arrested in relation to the 21 April terror attacks, bringing the total files returned so far to 100.

The files were returned with a letter to the Acting IGP Chandana Wickramaratne from AG Dappula De Livera advising him to get the investigations completed comprehensively before returning the files, Coordinating Officer to the AG Nishara Jayaratne said.

She noted that files sent to the AG pertaining to the Easter day attacks did not contain sufficient material to pursue legal action.

Jayaratne added the AG had said that if the files were returned without the investigations fully completed, they would be sent back once again to the Police Department.

The AG returned nearly 80 related investigation files in June on grounds they were incomplete.
