AG’s Dept. ends year concluding record 16,647 criminal cases

• Nearly 10,000 indictments forwarded in past 12 months
• Close to 3,000 suspects discharged during this period

The Attorney General’s Department has concluded 16,647 criminal cases in 2019 and forwarded 9,851 indictments to the High Courts, an official of the Department said yesterday.

AG’s Coordinating Secretary Nishara Jayaratne said during the past year, 2,957 suspects were also discharged and in 3,568 criminal cases Police were advised on how to proceed with the cases. This is an all-time record for the department in connection with concluding cases.
