Active members of the security forces, Police officers not allowed to engage in politics

The Ministry of Defense yesterday announced that members of the security forces and Police officers who are currently in active service do not have the right to engage in any political activity other than voting.

According to a release issued by the Ministry of Defense, members of the armed forces who are either active or retired are prohibited from wearing uniforms and engaging in political activities. The law is also applicable to the Police officers.

It is a punishable offense for security and Police officers to promote political parties.

The communiqué further states that the officers of the armed forces and the Police should act impartially for a free and fair election.
