Administration of a third or booster dose for the over-60 age group commenced today, with the program being rolled out in Western Province, Southern Province, Anuradhapura District and Ampara District.
Persons are eligible for the booster dose if it has been three months since they received the second dose. The third dose is being administered using the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Administration of the third dose commenced with frontline workers and 120,485 persons have received the booster dose. This includes 6,820 persons vaccinated on Monday.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 21,999 persons on Monday.
The first dose of Pfizer was administered to 4,451 persons on Monday and the second dose was administered to 845 persons. In total, the first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 1,509,341 persons and the second dose has been administered to 451,578 persons.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 11,930,747 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm and 10,866,283 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Monday, 1,760 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 8,110 persons received the second dose.
Thirteen persons received the second dose of Moderna on Monday, raising the number of persons to have received the second dose of the vaccine to 782,722. The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 804,801 persons.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and 1,418,593 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,110 persons and the second dose has been administered to 155,781 persons.
In total, the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 15,883,630 persons and the second dose has been administered to 13,674,957 persons.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 93.5% of the population over the age of 20 has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
