Afghanistan looks forward to expand growing bilateral relations with Sri Lanka

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani extending his best wishes to his Sari Lankan counterpart Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the 73rd anniversary of the Sri Lankan Independence Day looked forward to further expansion of growing bilateral relations to encompass all areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

In a congratulatory message to President Rajapaksa, President Ghani on behalf of the people of Afghanistan, extended his “sincere congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the Independence Day of the friendly country of Sri Lanka”.

He said the people of Afghanistan have firmly embraced democracy and continue to fight extremism and terrorism. “These dangerous threats not only destabilise my country but also pose a common threat to peace and stability in the whole region,” President Ghani noted.

He said today, more than ever before, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka possess numerous opportunities for results-driven cooperation and partnership on all issues of mutual interest and concern.

“In this light, Afghanistan appreciates our growing bilateral relations and looks forward to its further expansion to encompass all areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.”

President Ghani wished the Sri Lankan President “fine health and further success, and the friendly people of Sri Lanka continued peace, prosperity, and progress”.
