Agriculture Minister moots pricing formula for fertiliser

Agriculture Minister Janaka Wakkumbura said that a pricing formula will be introduced for companies that import fertilisers. Accordingly, there will be no injustice to the farmer in determining the price of fertiliser.

He said necessary steps will be taken as a solution to the problem faced by the farmers due to the importation of fertilisers by the private sector companies and selling at high prices.

The Minister also said steps will be taken to import chemical fertilisers through the two State-owned fertiliser companies and provide them to farmers at concessionary and reasonable prices.

The price of chemical fertilisers in the market will come down after this measure, he added.
