A private bus association were preparing to launch a strike from last night, demanding the Government to reduce the spot fines that were increased recently.
The All Ceylon Private Bus Workers’ Association (ACPBWA) said it would launch a strike from midnight against new fines imposed for violating road rules. They claimed that, despite informing the responsible authorities of this, no justice was achieved.
However, the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) said that they have decided not to support the strike.
LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne requested the ACPBWA not to launch a strike until after the ongoing Advanced Level Examination is concluded.
Meanwhile, the Inter Provincial Private Bus Owners Association (IPPBOA) also stated that they are not joining the strike.
