The Bur Dubai Police authorities are yet to confirm the blood test of singer Amal Perera, who was arrested with the most wanted underworld criminal Makandure Madush, for consuming drugs, Attorney-at-law Udul Premaratne said.

Premaratne said that Nadeemal Perera’s blood report received by the Protocol Officer (PO) of the Bur Dubai Police had confirmed that it was negative.

“We tried to convince the PO that Amal and Nadeemal are very popular singers in Sri Lanka and they have no intention to involve in drug smuggling,” Premaratne, who is now in Dubai to appear on behalf of the duo, said.

He said that they had shown him their YouTube videos and likes that they received to prove their popularity.

“We explained to him that no father would be accompanied by his son to a party if he is into drug smuggling and they are professional singers in Sri Lanka,” he said.

According to Premaratne, drug-related offenses are categorised under major crimes in Dubai and the suspects could be held in custody for months without producing before courts.

Premaratne said that they were not allowed to meet their clients today but would get a chance to talk to them only next Sunday.

“We will be allowed to meet them only on Sundays,” he said, adding that he is not aware anything about the actor Ryan Van Royen.
