Ambassador Cooray presents credentials to Iceland President

Ambassador N.L. Godfrey Cooray presented his Letter of Credence to President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson at a ceremony held on 10 November at the office of the President of Iceland in Reykjavík accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Iceland. 

While presenting his credentials the Ambassador conveyed the greetings from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the President of Iceland. 

Following the credentials Ambassador Cooray and President Jóhannesson discussed areas of possible bilateral cooperation between the two countries particularly in all areas of the blue economy and fisheries. The status of the pandemic in Sri Lanka and ways to stem it were also discussed. Iceland’s views on climate change and renewable energy, human rights and gender equality were also mentioned.

The Ambassador also had bilateral meetings with the Permanent Secretary of State Martin Eyjólfsson, Honorary Counsel of Sri Lanka, Dean of the United Nations University on Marine and Freshwater Research Institutions and the Fisheries Training Program, Chairman of the Board of Icelandic Ocean Cluster, Dean of UN Geothermal Training, Dean of UNESCO Gender Equality Studies & Training Program and travel agents in Iceland.
