Ambassador Designate of Sri Lanka calls on Kuwaiti Deputy PM

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador-designate to the State of Kuwait U. L. Mohammed Jauhar paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on 1 October and presented copies of his Letters of Credence. 

The Deputy Prime Minister, while welcoming the Ambassador-designate, observed that 

Sri Lanka and Kuwait enjoy excellent bilateral relations. He expressed hope that they would be further strengthened during the tenure of the new Ambassador. He also conveyed their gratitude for the contribution of Sri Lankan migrant workers in implementing development projects in Kuwait.

Sheikh Al-Sabah commended the Government of Sri Lanka for the steps taken to restore normalcy in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks, and expressed the international community’s admiration of the same.  While recalling the mutual support and co-operation extended by the two countries in international forums, Sheikh Al-Sabah specifically mentioned the efforts taken by Kuwait to assist Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva.  

The Ambassador-designate conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation to the Kuwaiti Government for their development assistance and support in international forums. 

He said the concessionary loans from the Kuwait Fund for development projects in 

Sri Lanka have made a great difference in Sri Lankan people’s lives and that the proposal for establishing a medical faculty at the University of Moratuwa is also in progress.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Protocol Affairs Ambassador Dhari Ajran Al-Ajran, Acting Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Saleh Al-Loughani and Minister of the Mission Poshitha Perera.
