Ambassador Jayatilleka meets Uzbekistan counterpart Asadov

On 11 January Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka had a meeting with his Uzbekistan counterpart, Asadov Botirzhon Zakirovich, at the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Moscow. 

Ambassador Jayatilleka is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Ambassadors had an analytical conversation on the matters regarding Human Rights and the UN system, and the experiences of both Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan. The Heads of Missions discussed the global shift of economic power. 

Ambassador Jayatilleka underscored the effective ‘Non-Aligned and Asia-centric’ foreign policy of the President Maithripala Sirisena. 

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Botirzhon Asadov expressed their vision on the development of bilateral relations between the countries and identified several spheres for further cooperation. 

During the discussion Dr. Jayatilleka showed a picture of his parents with Ambassador Rafik Nishanovich Nishanov, who was a famous political figure in Soviet Union and Uzbekistan in 1980s and served as Counsellor of the President of USSR, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbek Republic and Chairman of the Council of Nationalities at different times. Ambassador Asadov and his counsellor kindly requested to get a copy of the picture so it can be sent to Tashkent.
