The newly-appointed Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel, Waruna Wilpatha, presented his Letter of Credence to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on 21 November at the Beit HaNassi (President’s House) in Jerusalem, Israel.
The ceremony entailed the presentation of credentials followed by a Guard of Honour and the playing of the Sri Lankan national anthem. While welcoming the Ambassador, President Rivlin wished him success in his assignment in Israel. The Israeli President also conveyed his wishes to new Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He recalled the cordial bilateral relations that existed between Israel and Sri Lanka and highlighted the importance of furthering close cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Wilpatha conveyed the Sri Lankan President’s warm greetings and expressed his keen interest in further enhancing the friendly relations and close cooperation that exists between the two countries during his tenure in Israel.
Wilpatha has been a career Foreign Service officer since 1998 and served as the Director General of Human Resources and Mission Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately prior to his assignment as the Ambassador to Israel. In his diplomatic career, Ambassador Wilpatha has served in various capacities at Sri Lanka Missions in Moscow, Berlin, Havana and Ottawa as well as at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Wilpatha is a graduate of the University of Colombo.
