Approval has been received to administer the second vaccine dose to children between 16 and 19 years as well as the first dose for children between 12 and 15 years.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control, which met yesterday, has been instructed to collaborate with the Education Ministry to vaccinate children of this age group.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday instructed the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control to complete administering the booster dose within the next two weeks in order to control the spread of COVID-19 during the festive season.
Persons are eligible for the booster dose if they received the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least three months ago.
According to the PMD, the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control has decided to make the vaccination card mandatory when entering public places in future. “Legal advice has been sought with regard to preventing those who have not obtained the vaccine from entering public places in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” the PMD statement read.
The PMD added that the majority of COVID-19 cases reported are unvaccinated persons.
