Army Chief appointed as Acting CDS

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva has been appointed acting Chief of Defence Staff with effect from today, filling the gap left by Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne who retired yesterday.

The Military Spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickremasinghe confirmed to Daily FT that Lt. Gen. Silva will be acting CDS. 

“The Commander of the Army has been appointed acting Chief of Defence Staff, effective from 1 January 2020, in addition to his present office as the Commander of the Army, by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief,” the Army said.
