The Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) are making great strides in reconditioning the abandoned Army vehicle fleet, whilst saving a significant amount of foreign exchange.

The troops of SLEME refurbished and enabled a fleet of 25 abandoned vehicles for the use of the selected divisions, brigades and units of the Army in the Jaffna peninsula on Wednesday under the patronage of Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander General Shavendra Silva.

General Silva symbolically distributed the refurbished fleet of vehicles — 10 buses, five trucks, three unicorn buffels, five motorbikes, one tractor and one cab.

Following the inspection of the newly-repaired vehicles, General Silva commended the SLEME troops for their timely move and efforts for saving foreign exchange at a time it should remain a national priority.
