Army to release more lands to people

SLA Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake said that these lands, including the farms, will be released following the Directives of the President Maithripala Sirisena with the objective of further promoting gestures of goodwill and reconciliation, today

 The SLA following the recommendations of the Presidential Task Force is to release 1201.88 acres of state and private lands in the North, including 972 acres of state land in Kilinochchi and 120 acres of state land in Mullaitivu where the Army has been running farms.

Additionally, 46.11 acres of state land in Jaffna and Wanni and 63.77 acres of private land in Jaffna and Wanni will also be released at the ceremony to be held in Mullaittivu.

The three main army farms in Nachchikuda, Vellankulam and Udayarkattukulam will be handed over back to the Government agents of the three districts.

 “The process to release northern and eastern lands, belonging to civilians and the state that bear no impact to the national security,” the SLA Chief said.
