The ‘Aswasuma’ social security benefit program has garnered significant attention, with over three million applications flooding in from across the country to Divisional Secretariats, a Statement issued by the President’s Media Division noted.

“Following a thorough verification process, 3.3 million applications have been deemed eligible from 3.7 million applications, demonstrating the program’s commitment to ensuring deserving candidates benefit from its offerings,” it added.

A list containing two million names of eligible beneficiaries is available to keep the public informed  This list, pending appeals and objections, has been meticulously compiled by a dedicated three-member committee at the Divisional Secretariat level, with final approval granted by the District Secretary. This rigorous selection process ensures fairness and integrity in identifying those who qualify for the program.

For individuals who believe they meet the criteria but do not find their names on the published list, there is an opportunity to file appeals till 10 July. Additionally, a mechanism for anonymous complaints has been established to identify any discrepancies in the public list and prevent undeserving individuals from receiving social welfare benefits. Written appeals and objections can be submitted to the respective divisional secretariats, who are well informed about the process.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has emphasised the program’s dedication to fairness and inclusivity, ensuring that no one is treated unjustly or left behind. Directives have been issued to all Divisional Secretariats, emphasizing adherence to government decisions and upholding transparency and equity.

In the coming week, a separate list will be released, detailing the payment of allowances for various assistance programs that run alongside the relief benefit initiative. These allowances encompass 456,806 for the elderly, 19,496 for kidney patients, 46,857 for individuals with disabilities, and 523,159 for the public assistance program. The disclosure of this information will promote clarity and transparency in the distribution of benefits across multiple social support initiatives.

Lastly, an annual opportunity is provided for individuals who missed the initial registration for the ‘Aswasuma’ social welfare program or those who wish to join the program anew. This initiative ensures that individuals have the chance to avail themselves of the program’s benefits and support, contributing to their overall welfare and well-being.
